Dixie High School

Dixie High School Students, Parents and Community,

I am thrilled to be a part of the New Lebanon Local School system and to have the privilege to lead Dixie High School. This is my 22nd year in education. I have worked in both urban and suburban school districts, and I am so very excited to work in such a supportive community that shows great pride in their schools.

We want the 2013-14 school year to be another outstanding year at Dixie High School. To make that happen, we all must work together as a team, and I encourage input from students, staff, parents and community to make that happen. Respect+Responsibility+Achievement=Success is not just a slogan for our district and high school but a process for achieving a successful school experience and rewarding future as an adult.

The Class of 2014 will lead the way for all of our classes as they take on character building challenges in the classrooms, in the community, on the stage and in the athletic arena. Dual Credit and Advanced Placement courses will continue to be offered at Dixie High School to challenge students and help students to begin building their college transcripts. The Dixie High School staff will be alongside students every step of the way to help all of our students reach their goals.

Our Dixie High School staff will be teaching a challenging curriculum to all of our students. The Ohio Department of Education has rolled out the new Common Core standards and assessments for students that will occur over the next couple years. However, the standards and assessments are currently in a state of fluctuation as they are fine tuned. We’ll keep you updated on the changes through the year. Students will need to bring a strong effort and enthusiasm to their learning to get the most out of every academic day at Dixie High School. We encourage parents and community members to talk with students often about what they are learning at Dixie High School. Parents can check progress in classes at any time by accessing Progress Book on the website or by e-mailing teachers.

At Dixie High School, we strive for the success of every student. The comments and questions from our community are very helpful to our continuous improvement. Please feel free to contact me with your feedback: or by phone: 937-687-1366.

Dixie Elementary School

Dear Parents, Students and Community,

Everyone is hard at work at DES. Teachers are continuing to create engaging and rigorous lessons. The students continue to work hard putting their best foot forward. The community continues to show their support and desire to be a part of DES.

As the year moves forward many initiatives, programs and activities keep everyone busy. We continue to use our new MAP assessment system to keep progress of how our students are achieving. This is a web based program that allows our students to experience the use of technology in their learning environment. Students continue to participate in Title One groups for intervention or enrichment. These groups provide instruction that is designed for their specific ability. There are numerous programs that our students and community members participate in together. As always we continue to encourage our core belief statement of “Responsibility, Respect, and Achievement = Success!” This is an important part of our everyday learning at DES. Ask your students what Greycie says and they should enthusiastically tell you this.

As a building we appreciate the support from the community. If you ever have any questions about what is going on here at DES, please feel free to call or stop by. You can reach us at 937-687-3511 or email me at

Thank you,

Mr. Aaron Smith, Principal
